Shawnee Chooses Zhone’s Multi-Service Access Node Platform

Network access solution provider for fiber and broadband infrastructures, Zhone Technologies has announced that Shawnee Telephone Company has chosen the multi-service access node to support the Southern Illinois Sustainable Broadband Transformation project.

The multi-service access node platform will enable Shawnee to use broadband technologies such as ADSL2+ and gigabit passive optical network to deliver high-speed broadband access to rural regions.

The project will create employment opportunities for local people. Broadband connectivity will allow colleges and schools to offer additional preparatory classes and online learning programs. Shawnee will also provide free access to computers and training to reduce the gap for economically backward community.

Shawnee Telephone Company’s controller, Mike Grisham commented that the company’s multi-service approach towards high-speed access provisioning offers the service scalability and versatility needed for the successful growth of the project. He added that the company strives to meet the challenges encountered in rural service provisioning by reducing ownership costs and providing upfront equipment value.
