Developer of semiconductor system solutions, Atheros Communications has completed the acquisition of Opulan Technologies, for approximately $72 million. Atheros may also pay more cash to Opulan’s shareholders in the forthcoming 12 months, if Opulan fulfills specific business targets. Opulan is a provider of semiconductor solutions for the broadband access aggregation (MUX), and passive optical networking (PON).
The acquisition will expand the capabilities of Atheros in the networking sector, and will increase the company’s footprint in Asia. Atheros’ acquisition will also enable expansion of its workforce in China, offering an opportunity to enhance its customer and engineering support for the huge broadband deployments.
Atheros, with the addition of MUX and PON technologies of Opulan, will be able to offer carriers with a complete broadband architecture for individual houses and apartments. It currently offers solutions for powerline communications, GPS, Bluetooth, Ethernet, mobile WLAN, and WLAN.
