New Fiber-Optic Fusion Splicers from Fujikura

Fujikura has announced new fiber-optic fusion splicers, the FSM-100P and the FSM-100M, for PM (polarization-maintaining) fibers splicing. These fusion splicers are suitable for the splicing needs in research and development, laboratory, manufacturing, and factory applications.

These ArcMaster splicers can control the fusion arc’s plasma zone. These splicers can splice a wide range of specialty fibers such as holey or microstructured, large-diameter, and low-contrast PM.

The split v-groove clamping system supports optical fiber in the range of 60-2000 µm for coating or cladding, and requires no changing of fiber clamps or v-grooves. The IPA (interrelation profile alignment), a dual PM alignment technology, aligns and splices PM fibers properly. The Fujikura FSM-100P comprises the new IPA technologies, as well as the conventional profile alignment system. The IPA facilitates accurate estimation of crosstalk for any PM fiber type.

The fiber-optic fusion splicers combine the warm and cold splice imaging features, to provide accurate estimation of the splice loss. These splicers are used in the medical, sensors, fiber lasers, and telecommunications applications.
