LIME to Build New Fiber Optic Link in Jamaica

Jamaica-based telecommunications group, LIME, has announced the investment of up to US$100 million for the Jamaica projects. Majority of the funds will be used to install a new submarine fiber optic cable. In addition, the company will also invest US$500 million for other Caribbean operations.

The optical fiber link project, which links Jamaica to the Dominican Republic and the British Virgin Islands, is valued at US$35-million. This project is a separate from the agreement signed with Telecomunicaciones Gran Caribe to set up a fiber link between Cuba and Jamaica. A subscriber TV will also be launched as a part of the capital projects in Jamaica.

The project investment will enhance both entertainment and broadband services, and the new fiber-optic ring will introduce data traffic. Jamaica will be the first region to receive the subscriber television service from LIME Caribbean.

LIME Jamaica’s Chairman and LIME Caribbean’s Chief Marketing Officer, Chris Dehring, stated that they have planned to invest over US$600 million dollars in 13 business facilities across the region. The company has also planned to introduce new services and advanced technologies to attract new clients and retain existing ones.
