Southern Telecom to Expand Dark Fiber Network in Atlanta

Provider of dark fiber network solutions, Southern Telecom, has expanded its dark fiber network in Atlanta. Southern Telecom, a subsidiary of Southern Company, has already deployed a 30-mile fiber optic ring covering the Midtown Atlanta and the central business district.

The dark fiber ring serves major commercial areas and access points including Peachtree Street and laterals in various commercial buildings in downtown Atlanta. The company also obtained access to another 60-mile fiber optic ring in Atlanta’s metropolitan area. This will expand the company’s network reach in suburbs such as the Perimeter Mall and the Cumberland Mall business districts. The company expects to increase the fiber optic network across the southeast region to meet the growing bandwidth requirements.

Southern Telecom’s Business Development Manager, Leif Ericson, stated that the network expansion will provide additional fiber coverage to new customers and will allow them to optimize their service to existing customers.
