Study Shows Metabolic Activity Decline on PET Scan is Correlated with Local Tumor Control for Lung Cancer

A rapid decline in metabolic activity on a PET scan after radiation therapy for non-small cell lung cancer is correlated with good local tumor control, according to a study presented by researchers at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital at the 51st ASTRO Annual Meeting.

LEID to Install Biometric Access Control System at National Institutes of Health in Maryland

Auburn Hills, MI-based Law Enforcement Intelligent Devices, LLC (LEID) will be installing its locker system and patent-pending Biometric Access Control System(TM) (BACS) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Institutes of Health (NIH) based in Bethesda, MD. The locker system will support the NIH's entire police force that is responsible for protecting our nation's medical research agency. The project is expected to be completed in February 2010.

Taylor Hobson Launches New Form Talysurf PGI 2540 to Help Make High Quality Ultra Precision Lenses

The new Form Talysurf PGI 2540 takes combined form and surface finish measurement systems to a new level, for the first time offering a single instrument that can measure form with up to 25mm vertical range and surface finish down to 0.2 nanometer resolution. The system is focussed on delivering the metrology required to enable the optics sector to produce higher quality ultra precision lenses used in today's high volume markets like TV projectors, digital cameras and mobile phone cameras. The PGI 2540 is able to measure the most complex rotationally symmetric lenses and automatically calculate aspheric coefficients and errors from the design data.
