As well as presenting a technical paper and exhibiting from its range of Zetasizer light scattering solutions and Viscotek size exclusion chromatography systems, Malvern Instruments is sponsoring the ‘Protein Aggregation’ track at the next Cambridge Healthtech Institute PepTalk conference (January 11-15, 2010, San Diego, California).
Light manipulation technique effective, environmental alternative for growing holiday favorite
DTE Energy is offering its Detroit Edison business customers a free eight-pack of energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). The offer is part of the company's Your Energy Savings initiative, designed to help customers save money by saving energy.
The increase in the living standards and changing lifestyles has led to a greater demand for energy-efficient new lighting technologies over the traditional incandescent and halogen lighting. A wide number of application areas ranging from small household lighting to commercial and industrial lighting have been benefited by these emerging lighting technologies. The fulcrum has further shifted in favor of these new technologies by virtue of their availability in different sizes and shapes and with different fixtures to justify their usage in the widely varied application areas. With U.S. and Europe holding the major chunk of the market share currently, Asia is seen as an emerging market with tremendous potential, particularly in countries like India and China.
High power infrared emitters from Heraeus Noblelight, fitted with newly developed opaque quartz reflectors, are helping to ensure the bonding of a high-tech polypropylene composite coating on pipeline manufactured using an innovative pipeline construction technology. The custom-built shortwave infrared system is pyrometer controlled to ±3ºC and is moved around the pipe to allow the infrared heaters to be located as close as possible to the pipe surface.
Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) has been chosen by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) to further develop its short wave infrared (SWIR) imaging technology for enhanced night vision capability. Under DARPA's Photon Counting Array (PCAR) program, Goodrich will develop materials and circuitry to allow its small, lightweight cameras to provide images under darker conditions than previously possible. Work will be performed at Goodrich's ISR Systems business in Princeton, N.J.
Experts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center (LRC) estimate that about half of the approximately 13 million streetlights in America have the opportunity to significantly reduce energy consumption by as much as 50 percent, translating to an annual savings of 1 billion kWh, and a reduction in power plant CO2 emissions of 546,000 tons per year.
A team of physicists has directly observed a reverse shock wave of light in a specially tailored structure known as a left-handed metamaterial. Although it was first predicted over forty years ago, this is the first unambiguous experimental demonstration of the effect. The research is reported in Physical Review Letters and highlighted with a Viewpoint in the November 2 issue of Physics.
Clear-Lite Holdings, Inc. (“ClearLite”) (OTCBB: CLRH), a leading innovator of eco-friendly, energy-saving “natural” lighting today announced that it is introducing A Safer CFL™, the patent-pending ArmorLite™ SAFETY ECO CFL™, which is expected to revolutionize the Compact Florescent Lamp (CFL) market.
