Gulf Power and Pensacola City Partner to Test LED Lights for Streets

Gulf Power is teaming up with the City of Pensacola to test a new lighting technology for streets and selected downtown areas. The two-year test, which also involves the Electric Power Research Institute, will analyze Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights for energy savings and maintenance costs and serve as a research database for utilities and municipalities for evaluating LED technology for more uses.

Underwriters Labs Purchases Pennsylvania-Based Luminaire Testing Laboratory

Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) announced today that it has acquired Luminaire Testing Laboratory (LTL), based in Allentown, PA. LTL is an independent testing laboratory that provides performance testing of lamps and luminaires and is one of five laboratories approved by the Department of Energy (DOE) for ENERGY STAR® qualification testing for LED lighting products. The acquisition bolsters UL's leadership in the lighting industry, which is a strategic market for UL.
