Hubble Space Telescope Captures Rare Alignment Between Two Spiral Galaxies

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured a rare alignment between two spiral galaxies. The outer rim of a small, foreground galaxy is silhouetted in front of a larger background galaxy. Skeletal tentacles of dust can be seen extending beyond the small galaxy's disk of starlight.

1.2m Telescope Allows Amateurs to Peer into the Heavens at Professional Levels

NJIT physics professor Andrew Gerrard hopes by the end of October to be able to peer through what will be the second largest optical telescope east of Texas. Under his direction, a 1.2-meter diameter, fully-steerable Itek optical telescope will soon be installed far from city lights atop Jenny Jump Mountain, Hope. The site, 1100 feet above sea level, is one of the few dark sky locations left in New Jersey.

Syntec Optics Granted Patent for High Refraction Diamond Turning Technology

Syntec Optics, the largest independent manufacturer of custom plastic optics in North America, has been granted a US patent for its HRDT(TM) (High Refraction Diamond Turning) technology, in production use since late 2005. Most Syntec HRDT projects have been defense-related.
