Tunable Infrared Laser Direct Absorption Spectroscopy Identifies Methane’s Origins

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, second only to carbon dioxide in its capacity to trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere for a long time. The gas can originate from lakes and swamps, natural-gas pipelines, deep-sea vents, and livestock. Understanding the sources of methane, and how the gas is formed, could give scientists a better understanding of its role in warming the planet.

McPherson Offers Compact Double-Monochromator for Standoff Raman Spectroscopy

Standoff Raman spectroscopy is an optical sensing technique. Among other things, it can be used to detect and identify chemical, biological and explosive activity. There is an ongoing national and international scientific effort to improve these types of detectors. The goal is to form sensing networks to provide early warning for a variety of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive (CBRNe) weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Surgeons rely on 200-year-old techniques based on sight and touch when removing cancer, to determine how much to remove and what to leave alone. Laser technology pioneered at Florida Atlantic University has the promise to help a surgeon better determine if an area is cancer or healthy tissue. Moreover, when combined with laser treatment for cancer, this work lays the groundwork for laser robotic treatment of cancer.

Deep Ultraviolet Luminescence Spectrophotometer
Short ultraviolet wavelengths improve optical characterization and expand spectral measurements from the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) to the near infrared. The new McPherson vacuum ultraviolet universal spectrophotometer is an optical test system optimized for emitting samples like phosphors or photo- and electro- luminescent crystals. These are used in modern efficient lighting, displays, and lasers. It can measure reflectance, transmission and fluorescence emission over its complete working, 120 nanometers to 2.2 microns.

Three Layers with Numerous Modifications Identified In Eighteenth Century Painting

Bruker Releases ONET Software for Administration of FT-NIR Spectrometer Networks
