Liquid Fiber Displays Combining Optical Fiber Array With LCD and LED Display Sign Technology

Liquid Fiber Displays, a company spun out of research conducted in the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, has combined a uniquely woven optical fiber array with current LCD (liquid crystal display) and LED (light-emitting diode) display sign technology. The hair-thin optical fibers replace over 90 percent of the blue, green and red LED's required by conventional LED displays.

Optical Lase Improves Flow-Cytometery Experiments

The first application of optical supercontinuum lasers in flow-cytometry was reported in a recent Nature publication by researchers at National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the US National Institute of Health. State-Of-The-Art Laser Peening Technology Improves Fatigue Strength of Titanium Blades

Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced today that Siemens Power Generation has begun utilizing its laser peening technology to improve the fatigue strength of titanium last row blades on certain of their advanced steam turbines. The last row blades extract energy from the steam to drive electrical generators. Although laser peening technology has been utilized for several years to strengthen critical titanium components in commercial and military turbine engines, this application represents its first production use in power generation steam turbines.
