Two new bioinstrumentation lasers from Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) deliver the highest power yet available in a compact package. Specifically, the Sapphire™ 488 LP now offers 150 mW of CW output at 488 nm, while the Sapphire 561 LP provides 200 mW of power at 561 nm.

Solar Energy Initiatives Enters Deal to Secure Land for Construction of Solar Park in California

Solar Energy Initiatives, Inc. (OTCBB:SNRY), executing on a grass roots campaign, “RENEW THE NATION”, to help redeploy a portion of the U.S. work force and focus on reducing the world’s dependence on fossil fuels by selling solar thermal and photovoltaic (PV) technologies, today announced that the Company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Solar Park Initiatives, signed a contract securing land for the design, construction and operation of a solar park in California. Solar Park Initiatives will be responsible for providing engineering, permitting, construction, operations and maintenance as well as obtaining the financing of the solar park. Solar Energy Initiatives will procure the solar panels and balance of system for the project.

Owens Corning Announces Activation of 440kW Solar System at its New Jersey Facility

Owens Corning (NYSE: OC), world leader in building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, and SunEdison, North America’s largest solar services provider, announced the activation of a 440 kilowatt (kW) roof-mount photovoltaic (PV) solar system at Owens Corning’s Kearny, New Jersey facility. The activation took place on Sept. 21, the day before SunEdison was awarded the first energy stimulus grant in the solar industry, under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act).

Malvern Instruments Product Manager to Discuss Use of Spraytec Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer

Dr Paul Kippax, product manager for diffraction systems at Malvern Instruments, is one of a group of powder dispersion and characterization experts who will speak in Leeds, UK, on 8 December 2009 at a meeting on ‘Dispersion and Characterization of Dry Cohesive Powders for Inhalation and Particle Sizing’. The meeting, organised by researchers from the Institute of Particle Science and Engineering at Leeds University, will address the current state of the art and science of powder dispersion for pulmonary drug delivery, and the characterization of physical and mechanical powder properties, such as size and shape. Dr Kippax will discuss the use of the Spraytec laser diffraction particle size analyzer in understanding the operation of dry powder inhalers (DPIs) and the application of image analysis to understanding the structure of the agglomerates they produce.

The World Usability Day Project Announces 1,000 Free LED Spot/Bulbs Online

How many light bulbs does it take to change the world? Just one, if you make it LED. The World Usability Day (WUD) project will make 1,000 LED spot/bulbs available for free via their website http://www.worldusabilityday.org. "Assume the following math: 1,000 bulbs can replace all of the light bulbs in 20 medium-sized houses," said Brian Sullivan, the usability principal at the Sabre Human Factors Center in San Francisco, CA, and co-chair of World Usability Day. "The LED bulbs are easily three times more efficient than standard bulbs. So that is the equivalent of lighting 100 houses," said Brian Sullivan, co-chair of World Usability Day. By using 1 LED bulb rather than 3 filament bulbs you will save 268.24 kWh.
