GAO Fiber Optics Launches Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer

GAO Fiber Optics, provider of fiber optical devices, has launched its new, advanced handheld OTDR (optical time-domain reflectometer). The OTDR is specifically designed for the manufacture, maintenance and construction of fiber optic communication devices.

The OTDR is particularly of great use in FTTx (Fiber-to-the-x) network testing. It locates any breaks or faults in the fiber optic systems and calculates their physical characteristics such as splice loss, transmission loss and length.

The 6416 OTDR provides optional waveforms of 1490, 1310, 1625 and 1550 nm and has a VFL (visible fault location) function. The optical time-domain reflectometer offers 0.25 m high-resolution, 65535 sampling points and an extended operating time on a single charge. The OTDR also features a 1.6 m short event dead zone.

The OTDR offers dual USB interfaces and supports direct cable download to a personal computer through ActiveSync. The rugged OTDR comes with a TFT LCD screen, which is anti-reflective and is also equipped with a strap to carry it effortlessly. The OTDR supports the Bellcore GR196 file format to manage the files.
