Siemon has launched its new range of active optical cabling assemblies called the QSFP+ 40 GB/s for high performance connectivity. These optical cables are suitable for supporting interconnect applications such as network storage systems, enterprise networking and high-performance computing (HPC).
The interconnect applications expand Siemon’s portfolio of fiber and copper data cabling products and are a part of the Moray Active Optical Cabling (AOC) series.
The four-lane QSFP+ optical cables feature a low-power transceiver, which uses the Silicon complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) Photonics technology and requires 780 MW of power. The CMOS Photonics technology contains an optoelectronic chip with a micro-packaged laser and a directly attached fiber. The technology reduces the cost of Siemon’s Moray optical cabling assemblies and also reduces the number of components in the assemblies. Improved reliability is also obtained compared to the current multi-mode fiber and vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) solutions. A distance from 1-4000 m is supported by the single chip transceivers for intra and inter-building applications.
The optical cable assemblies support InfiniBand systems, Ethernet and other IO interface links between a variety of buildings, containers and boxes. The Moray products come in customized length options from 1m to 4000 m.
