Picometrix Ships 100G Optical Receivers

Picometrix, a unit of Advanced Photonix, has announced the shipping of its high-speed 100G coherent optical receivers. The CR-100A optical receivers are appropriate for DP-QPSK, as well as alternative coherent modulation formats.

The receivers feature proprietary amplifiers and patented photodiodes that provide superior performance and exhibit the technology leadership of the company in the upcoming 100G and the present 40G optical communication market.

In order to meet the demands of its customers, Picometrix started shipping its pre-production 100G units in the first fiscal quarter of 2011. The company currently has a backlog of $1.2 million to be delivered in the first and second quarter of 2011. The company anticipates to complete the Telecordia GR-468 qualification in its fiscal second quarter of 2011. By that time, the production of the product will go in full swing. The qualification fulfills the requirement of reliability assurance needed for optoelectronic devices. This helps in decreasing the life-cycle cost and ensures dependable operation for optoelectronic devices.

The optical receivers are compliant with the Compact Coherent Receiver multisource agreement (CCRx MSA). The agreement defines an industry standard and a more economic form factor for coherent fiber-optic receivers for 40G and 100G systems.

President of Picometrix, Robin Risser, stated that the optical communication market is moving towards 100G because of the growing demand for Internet, Voice and HDTV. He said that the demand for 100G optical receivers would be strong.
