Spire to Manufacture Solar Simulator Using LED for DOE

Spire Corporation has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research to manufacture a solar simulator using light emitting diode (LED) by the Department of Energy (DOE). Spire is a solar company located in America that supplies turnkey manufacturing lines and capital equipment to manufacture photovoltaic modules.

Spire uses pulsed light sources to manufacture solar simulators. The research project granted by DOE would enable Spire to produce a solar simulator using the LED technology. An LED-based solar simulator provides various advantages such as reliability, cost-effectiveness, and accuracy. The control electronics and system software enables spatial, intensity, and spectral uniformity variations.

Chief Executive Officer of Spire, Roger G. Little, stated that the company was pleased that the Small Business Innovation Research project has been granted by DOE. He further commented that the company’s simulators were utilized by many module manufacturers and testing facilities throughout the world.
