Innovator in Super Resolution to Inaugurate MICROSCIENCE 2010

The opening Plenary Lecture at MICROSCIENCE 2010 would be delivered by Dr. Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz, a leader in super resolution imaging. The event will take place on June 29 at London’s docklands. The doctor is a pioneer in utilizing green fluorescent protein technology to study the working of living cells by using light microscopy.

Dr. Lippincott-Schwartz recently developed the photoactivation localization microscopy (PALM) that allows the arrangement of distinctive molecules in cells by light microscopy to be noticed. She would be awarded the Pearse Prize, which is the most prestigious award given for histochemistry by the Royal Microscopical Society. Previous winners of the Pearse award include Dr. Roger Tsien and Dr. Osamu Shimomura. Both of them later won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. The research done by Dr Lippincott-Schwartz was developed from the works of Osamu Shimomura and Roger Tsien.

The Organizing Committee’s Co-Chairman, Dr. Debbie Stokes, stated that it is a privilege to receive Dr. Lippincott-Schwartz to MICROSCIENCE 2010. He further commented that the doctor’s speech would inspire people who are in the initial stages of their careers.
