Fiber optic communication services have been installed in Buccament Bay Resort located in St. Vincent. Grove Networks, AFL Network Services and Tellabs have deployed Fiber-to-the-Cabana (FTTC) system in the resort.
The proprietor of the resort, Harlequin Hotels and Resorts, believed that installing the conventional copper/coax architecture for a huge area like the resort was not an appropriate solution. After discussing with Grove Networks, their technology consultant, they found that the FTTC architecture provided more advantages than the conventional copper-based network. The advantages of using FTTC include the capability to elevate their future services without spending too much on the prevailing infrastructure and discharging high-bandwidth services to the guests in the resort. The FTTC architecture is also resistant to corrosion from saltwater and lighting.
Assistance in design and implementation of the FTTC architecture were given by AFL network services after receiving a request from Grove Networks. Tellabs, in collaboration with AFL, supplied a whole range of Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and passive fiber optic components. Products such as splitters, cables and panels required for the passive portion of the network were supplied as well. Tellabs 1134 platform that has distinctive Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) for video and data services for the cabanas were also supplied.
Chief Executive Officer of Grove Networks, Andrew Judge, said that the products delivered by AFL helped the company to deliver fiber optic infrastructure for the resort at a competitive price. He further commented that the 1134 platform would help in serving the future needs of the customers.
