UL Authorizes Product Safety Consulting to Serve Lighting and Medical Devices Sectors

Product Safety Consulting (PSC) announced that it has been accredited under the Underwriters Laboratories’ (UL) Data Acceptance Program to conduct compliance testing for the medical devices and lighting products sectors. PSC is now completely empowered to carry out testing and present results for the UL certification.

PSC can help products to get the certification under various standards such as UL 8750 Light-Emitting Diode Equipment for Use in Lighting Products, UL 153 Luminaires, UL 924 Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment, UL 1598 Portable Electric Luminaires, and UL 60601 Medical Electrical Equipment.

The Data Acceptance Program of the UL provides flexibility to the manufacturers to either use their own lab facilities or an independent testing lab, when they need to evaluate their products for UL compliance. This adaptability can result in an effective product development process, shorter testing times, and minimal R&D costs.

The President of PSC, John Allen, said that both medical device and lighting sectors are facing distinct challenges due to the speedy transition to new technologies and increase in competition. These aspects have put huge pressure over the developers to be creative in design, as well as to cut short the product development cycle, simultaneously.
