Zhone Technologies has introduced new, advanced optical network terminals (ONTs) for Active Ethernet and Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) operations. The optical network terminals, a total of 18 models, deliver superior performance compared to the earlier models and help optimize optical network terminals’ costs for various deployment configurations.
The optical network terminals provide superior data throughput and support the most challenging FTTx applications, irrespective of the packet size. All the models offer 2 or 4 voice ports and 1Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. The former supports several Voice over IP protocols such as MGCP, SIP and SIP-PLAR. These features enable service providers to switch from the legacy to the softswitch architectures without replacing the optical network terminals.
All ONT models are produced in Zhone’s manufacturing center in the U.S. The latest HPNA chipset offers optimum performance with flexible options over coax and phoneline. The Active Ethernet models offer an SPF uplink, which supports various Active GigE transceivers for more deployment flexibility. The Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network models come with and without support for RfoG or RF Video.
The zNID and the MXK series offer a high performance solution to a large number of subscribers. The zNID ONTs, combined with the MXK platform, enable service providers to provide optimum network solutions to the subscriber location.
The Chief Marketing Officer of Zhone, Brian Caskey, stated that service providers constantly seek to provide advanced application solutions in a cost-effective way. The company addresses this issue and helps customers in building sophisticated network infrastructure.
