Evergreen Solar, a company that manufactures STRING RIBBON solar products based on its proprietary technology for silicon wafer manufacturing, announced its largest solar panel installation ever. About 7 MW of the company’s solar panels have been used for an 8 MW solar power plant in Germany.
The solar plant was installed in the Neustrelitz city by IBC SOLAR. The plant was installed with about 34,000 Evergreen Solar’s IBC Polysol String Ribbon panels in 200 and 205 VG categories. The solar plant will generate enough electricity that can be supplied to over 2,600 homes in Neustrelitz. This helps to save 4,480 metric tons or more of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
The 8 MW solar PV plant is situated on a former training base of Soviet army. Before the installation, a munitions recovery was performed at the site by IBC SOLAR to ensure that the land is entirely safe from hidden mines.
The Evergreen Solar’s sales vice president for Africa, Middle East, and Europe, Peter Rusch said that the project is important for them as the land has been remediated completely by IBC SOLAR. The project meets their mission to offer solar panels that are most environmentally friendly, he noted. At present, the String Ribbon PV panels provide the fastest energy payback compared to other silicon-based panel, while offering the smallest carbon footprint, Rusch added.
Norbert Hahn, a member of IBC SOLAR Board, noted that their products undergo severe quality controls and inspection at any level of the production. They test panels’ performance and durability with the help of their climate chamber and internal flasher. Moreover, the systems from the company are certified by institutes such as VDE, Fraunhofer ISE and TÜV, he said.
