3D by Marvell and ARMADA Media Processor to be Displayed at Computex Taipei 2010

Marvell has launched a new support system called the ‘3D by Marvell’ for three-dimensional (3D) Blu-ray playback embedded into the ARMADA 1000 HD Media Processor, the 88DE3010.

The ARMADA 1000 HD Media Processor System-on-a-Chip (SoC) provides enhanced digital entertainment experience, and provides the necessary tools to support three–dimensional content in a number of home systems such as 3D digital televisions, Set-Top-Boxes (STBs), Blu-ray players and digital media adaptors.

Majority of satellite operators, broadcasters and Hollywood content producers are planning to bring 3D theatrical effects to homes and theaters. In view of this scenario, electronic makers will need to provide sophisticated solutions to meet the consumers’ demand for 3D experience. New report estimates that about 22.5 million viewers will tune their televisions to new 3D media by the year 2015.

According to Marvell Semiconductor’s Interim General Manager of Digital Entertainment Business Unit, Communications and Consumer Business Group, Gaurav Shah, there is a growing demand for 3D movies and games and consumers want to experience the 3D effects from the comfort of their homes. He informed that the company’s unique technological solutions can help meet these demands and the advanced ARMADA 1000 HD media processor is specifically developed to bring Blu-ray 3D experiences to homes.

The ARMADA 1000 HD media processor and the 3D by Marvell will be presented at the international tradeshow, Computex Taipei 2010. The show will be held in Taiwan, Taipei from June 1 to 5 2010.
