iWatt CEO to Participate in ThinkEquity's Clean Tech Semiconductor Conference

Ron Edgerton, president and CEO of power control IC company iWatt, Inc., will be a member of the panel “Clean Tech - The Next Growth Driver for Semis?” at the ThinkEquity First Annual Semiconductor Conference in New York City. Edgerton will discuss the role of iWatt’s GreenTech ICs in reducing energy consumed by LCD televisions, LED lighting applications, and cell phone chargers.

Recently, iWatt launched an energy-efficient ac/dc power controller iW3610 that can be used in conjunction with solid-state lighting. The digital power controller is compatible with all types of wall dimmers and helps in reducing LED power consumption.

The company has developed the power supply control IC iW7040 for LED backlights that helps in reducing power in an LED-backlit LCD television by 5–10 W. Besides, iWatt’s power supply control ICs help in reducing stand by power of cell phone chargers by nearly 90%.

iWatt offers power supply control solutions based on digital algorithms. These solutions are smaller, more cost effective, and more efficient compared to traditional analog control solutions. With iWatt’s adaptive digital control technology, low standby power is now achievable.

The DOE estimates that cumulative energy savings that can be achieved by using LED lighting instead of incandescent lamps would be about 1,488 terawatt-hours, or nearly $120 billion. Such conservation initiatives will result in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by about 246 million metric tons of carbon annually. Edgerton states that conservation plays a major part in engineering design decisions at present.
