Yusen Terminals Completes First Solar Installation at POLA

Yusen Terminals reported that it has completed the pilot tenant solar installation at the Port of Los Angeles (POLA). The company has installed the solar power system in collaboration with its parent company NYK Trading. The solar system, designed by SeaPort Energy, has the capacity to generate approximately 11,800 kWh per year.

The tenant-installed solar power system comprises 96 CIS solar modules that are manufactured by Solar Frontier K.K. As these solar modules do not contain silicon, they are considered eco-friendly modules of the future. The CIS solar cells are made of indium, copper and selenium. With an exceptional light-absorbing capability, the solar cells deliver the highest conversion efficiency among all thin-film solar panels.

The company has installed the solar system next to the wharf so as to prove the modules’ durability in saltwater maritime surroundings. This project is part of POLA’s commitment to install 10 MW solar power system in five years.
