3M Touch Systems, Inc., a 3M subsidiary, launches its 20-finger multi-touch display M2256PW suitable for even the most demanding multi-user, multi-touch applications. The newly unveiled high-definition LCD display is based on 3M’s proprietary Projected Capacitive Technology (3M PCT), which results in fast and accurate multi-touch response. The M2256PW features a 1680 x 1050 LCD screen, DVI/VGA video input, audio input, anti-glare surface, and RS232/USB ports.
With a fast response time of nearly 6 milliseconds, the M2256PW enables application developers to make full use of its multi-touch capabilities for 20 simultaneous touches. The display offers accurate response as well, lending itself to both commercial and professional applications. Other key advantages offered by 3M’s PCT include palm accommodation and anti-stiction touch surface. The display’s 3358 touch points support edge accuracy and precise draw for full-screen interactivity.
Tested for Windows Touch AQ, the M2256PW can be used in commercial and professional applications, such as computer aided design, education and training, security monitoring systems, computer gaming, and telepresence, which require a high level of interactivity. The M2256PW is compatible with the Windows 7 operating system and additional drivers are not needed. For operating systems such as Linux and Windows XP/Vista, 3M provides a multi-touch software and driver utility. 3M also provides documents of communication protocol to enable users who wish to develop drivers.
