GTA TeleGuam Chief says Guam’s Telecom Infrastructure can Support Military Buildup

Dan Moffat, CEO and president of GTA TeleGuam, assured the participants of the Hita I Marianas Conference held in San Diego that telecommunication infrastructure of Guam is ready to support the island’s military buildup. Thanks to private investments, Guam now has an excellent telecom network, Moffat said.

Guam’s military buildup is among the largest peacetime investment in military construction and service in the last five decades and has gained the attention of U.S. businesses. In the next 5 to 10 years, the buildup is expected to generate $20 billion through contracts with Government of Japan, U.S. Federal, Department of Defense, and local government for construction and service work in the Marianas region.

Moffat said Guam is a natural communication gateway connecting North America and Asia. The island has landing points of 12 individual submarine cables and fiber optic network rings, which provide access to major institutions in Guam. He added that GTA TeleGuam hopes to compete in CNMI (Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands), which has high communication costs.
