New Tunable Optical Filter Module for the GP750 Fiber Optic Test System

DiCon Fiberoptics announces a new tunable optical filter module for the GP750, a fiber optic test system that is able to automate optical switches, variable optical attenuators, and now tunable optical filters. Based on DiCon's proven MEMS technology, the tunable filter can be tuned to de-multiplex a signal in either the C or L band with a channel spacing of either 50GHz or 100GHz.

Tunable optical filter module

"Our proprietary MEMS tunable filter technology allows for precise wavelength tuning and is ideal for test applications in optical channel performance monitoring, ROADM systems, noise suppression, or signal tracking," said Robert Schleicher, VP of Product Development. "In addition, they have a fast tuning speed of 30 ms, making it possible to tune quickly and accurately over a number of channels."

The tunable bandpass filter is available in either a 50GHz or 100GHz channel spacing and is designed for use in either the C or L band. Between one and four tunable optical filters can be integrated into each module. When used in conjunction with other GP750 modules, such as optical switches or variable optical attenuators, a complete test set can be developed. For example, in an optical channel monitoring test set, signals from multiple fibers could be monitored when used with a fiber optic switch module.

The tunable filter module is designed for use with the GP750 fiber optic test platform. Able to automate fiber optic switches, fiber optic variable attenuators or tunable optical filters, the system is completely modular, which makes long-term service and future upgrades easy. If downtime is critical, back-up modules can be kept on hand and swapped out in no time. The GP750 is also easy to control with its intuitive front panel or Ethernet, RS-232 or GPIB automation.
