QD Vision Expands Patent Portfolio in Quantum Dot IP

QD Vision, a developer of nanotechnology-based lighting and display products, announced that it has acquired a patent portfolio from Motorola. The acquired patent allows the company to use Motorola’s quantum dot technology in its display and lighting products.

The acquisition of this patent portfolio boosts up the company’s place in the quantum dot IP segment. The portfolio includes the U.S. patent of Jaskie, which allows the usage of photoluminescent quantum dots. The patents also include the pending applications that are related to quantum dots usage on various kinds of display products such as LCD backlight products. Before this purchase, QD Vision had already added 9 patents and over 130 pending patents applications that were originated at the company and MIT.

Quantum Light Optic

The Quantum Light solutions are being developed by the company for application in display backlight units (BLUs) that are used in various markets such as laptops, TVs and cell phones. The company has planned to commence shipment of BLU in 2011. At present, QD Vision is offering Quantum Light optic solutions for use in solid-state lighting market. All the products of the company incorporate advanced technologies in spanning chemistry, device designs, nanotech materials and manufacturing methods.

The President and CEO of the company, Dan Button, said that they are creating strong patent portfolios by developing new quantum dot technology-based products for displays and solid-state lighting. The newly acquired patent portfolio will complement the existing vast intellectual property wealth and help them to maintain the leading position in the market, Button commented.
