In-Stat has released a new research report on the Pico Projector market. The report reveals that the small candy-bar sized pico projectors are quickly taking the place of micro video projectors in the market. The longing for larger display together with an enhanced capability in pico projection will create a new consumer electronic market. The shipments in this new segment will cross 20 million units in a span of five years.
The research conducted by In-Stat showed that the stand-alone pico projectors are leading the market and at the same time there is a definite switch over to ‘embedded’ from ‘plug-in.’ The report suggests that pico projectors market revenue is likely to reach $0.5 billion by the year 2014. Another finding of the report is that the current domination of stand-alone and personal CE devices will be changed as the mobile handset market will grow statistically in the following two years.
The new research covered various global markets for pico projector technology such as study of market barriers and drivers, study of various technologies with relevant issues and unit sales guidance of the product by category through the year 2014.
An analyst from In-Stat, Frank Dickson, said that at present there are 18 companies that develop pico projectors; however the number is growing. Some of the present companies that are leading in the pico projection market are Micron Displaytech, Microvision, Himax and Texas Instruments.
The research report, which is titled as “Pico Projectors: One Reason Bigger Isn’t Better”, covers profiles of various manufacturers including 3M, Digislide, Himax, Lite-On Technology, Micron Displaytech, Mitsumi Electric, Opus Microsystems, Texas Instruments, Microvision and Lite Blue Optics.
