Kyocera Integrates API’s Cryptek Netgard into its Multifunctional Printers, Scanners, and Copiers

Kyocera Mita America, Inc., one of the world’s leading document solutions companies, has partnered with API Technologies Corp. (ATNY.OB) ("API"), a prime contractor in engineered systems, components and secure communications to the global defense and aerospace industries, to provide API’s HSPD-12-compliant Cryptek Netgard MFD (multi-function device) as an integrated component to enhance the data security of Kyocera’s document imaging devices.

By using the highly advanced Kyocera HyPAS development architecture, the Cryptek Netgard is integrated directly into select Kyocera’s multifunctional products (MFP) and uses the existing 8.5 inch color touch screen panel for function control, significantly increasing ease of use and leveraging the Kyocera platform itself.

Kyocera and API previewed the solution at the Kyocera Mita America Pan-American Dealer Meeting April 6-8, 2010 in Orlando, Florida, and will introduce it to government customers at the GSA Expo in Orlando May 6-7, 2010.

API’s Cryptek Netgard cost-effectively brings printers, scanners and copiers into HSPD-12 compliance by enabling CAC (common access card) authentication and access, saving valuable resources in equipment upgrades and infrastructure. It enables organizations to easily maintain consistent security protocols including digitally signed and encrypted emails for positive confirmation of the sender, protected network access from unauthorized users, as well as limited distribution of privileged materials, in accordance with current government regulations.

Stephen B. Pudles, CEO of API Technologies, said, “With the onset of electronic documentation, and the increasing ease at which information can be disseminated, it’s critical for users to be able to protect highly sensitive information. The quality of Kyocera and the track record of API combines to give users a reliable and secure method of guarding this type of data.”

Peter Cybuck, Senior Director Security and Software Solutions of Kyocera commented, “Kyocera is at the forefront of document security, but as more demands are put on MFPs, we look for trusted solutions that enable us to meet the expanding security requirements of our customers. The Cryptek Netgard seamlessly integrates with our class-leading systems, while providing the most sophisticated security features for enhancing data security.”

In addition to HSPD-12 and the US Department of Defense CAC standard, the Cryptek Netgard MFD is compliant to FIPS 120-2 and FIPS 201. It also supports all smartcard standards including ISO/IEC 7816 and ISO/IEC 7810.
