Clear-Lite Holdings, Inc. (“ClearLite”) (OTCBB: CLRH), a leading innovator of eco-friendly lighting, today announced the expansion of the patent-pending ArmorLite™, A Safer CFL™, in Canada.
This news comes in response to a mandate announcing that Ottawa will phase out the sale of inefficient incandescent bulbs by 2012. The ban is expected to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than six million tonnes a year and save homeowners approximately $60 annually in electricity costs. In response to the transition to energy-efficiency light bulbs, Canadian consumers will soon be choosing from a new generation of lighting options, including a variety of CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps).
While the majority of CFLs currently on the market offer energy savings of up to 75% and last 6-15 times longer than comparable incandescent bulbs, many also contain liquid mercury, which poses a potential safety risk to both humans and pets if a bulb is broken in the home.
ClearLite’s ArmorLite™ contains no liquid mercury, but is instead made using amalgam, an alloy of mercury with other metals in a solid form. To further enhance the safety of the bulbs, ArmorLite™ also has SX-4000™ eco safety coating that is designed to help capture the broken glass and mercury. Thanks to this safety coating, independent laboratory tests by Cambridge Materials Testing Limited (CMTL) found that the relative airborne mercury concentrations were well below the limit of detection of the lab’s Mercury Analyzer after breaking and crushing the glass within each CFL.
“We feel strongly about creating the safest products available and are proud to offer Canadian consumers an energy-efficient lighting alternative that provides an added level of safety and protection from shards of glass and toxic mercury,” said Thomas Irvine, ClearLite's President and CEO. “This is why we believe the patent-pending ArmorLite™ may be the Greenest and Safest CFL on the Planet™.”
