Dongbu HiTek today confirmed that its High Voltage BCDMOS technology was used to develop and process new High Voltage LED Driver ICs that were developed in collaboration with ADDtek, a Taiwanese fabless company specializing in analog and mixed-signal chip solutions. Supporting 60V and higher applications, the LED Drivers now shipping in volume to ADDtek are ideal for controlling the Back Light Unit (BLU) in flat-panel TFT-LCD televisions.
Today’s announcement highlights a productive collaboration that began about 18 months ago when Dongbu HiTek’s BCDMOS specialists and ADDtek chip designers first focused on developing LED Driver ICs for low voltage BLU applications in laptop computers. According to Jae Song, Dongbu HiTek VP of sales and marketing. “Our best-in-class BCDMOS continues to be deployed effectively across a broad range of LED Driver IC applications – ranging from those supporting 20V and under in laptop/mobile displays to those supporting 60V and higher in products such as LCD TVs.” He noted his firm’s specialized BCDMOS can be deployed to support applications up to 700V.
According to Mr. Song, “The High Voltage LED Driver ICs that we are now shipping to ADDtek were processed at the 0.35-micron node. Compared to 0.18- and 0.25-micron LED Driver ICs manufactured by Taiwanese foundries, our 0.35-micron chips are not only similar in both size and function with these narrower node devices, but also very price competitive with them.”
Dongbu HiTek continues to distinguish itself as an innovator and a provider of best-in-class analog and mixed-signal technologies. IC Insights, an independent market research organization, recently ranked Dongbu HiTek as the world’s top specialized foundry. Among the other foundries that IC Insights ranked in the specialized sector were Vanguard in Taiwan, TowerJazz in Israel and X-FAB in Germany.
