Opsens Inc. (TSX VENTURE EXCHANGE: OPS) (“Opsens”) today announced the receipt of a new order from a Canadian global energy company for its OPP-W fiber optic pressure and temperature sensor.
The OPP-W sensors will be deployed in five (5) Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (“SAGD”) producer wells. The order follows a successful installation 17 months ago for the same company by Opsens’ Edmonton unit, Opsens Solutions Inc.
Opsens’ OPP-W sensor continues to gain more interest for injection/production well and reservoir monitoring solutions for thermal recovery processes in bitumen/heavy oil, such as SAGD, which is being adopted for commercial projects in Alberta. The large number of current and planned SAGD projects represents a vast potential market for Opsens.
Opsens’ sensor has been successfully operating for almost 24 months in SAGD projects where injection/production temperatures can reach 300°C. OPP-W technology provides SAGD producers with real time pressure/temperature data required for managing steam injection and fluid production and allow safe operations at maximum steam injection pressures.
“For almost two years, our customers have been field testing our products to verify that they indeed improve the efficiency and safety of SAGD operations,” said Gaétan Duplain, President of Opsens Solutions Inc. “This order marks our second customer demonstrating support for OPP-W technology and provides evidence that our sensor system is gaining market acceptance.”
A few months ago, another major energy company placed a commercial-size order to instrument 26 additional wells with the OPP-W system.
