Fairchild Semiconductor’s (NYSE: FCS) high performance optocoupler, the FOD8001, has received an EN-Genius Network 2009 “Product of the Year” award for “Best New Optocoupler”.
With the FOD8001, system engineers are able to design a strong industrial fieldbus network with low transmission error rates, low system failure rates and proven reliability over an extended period of time.
The FOD8001, a 3.3V/5V high-speed logic gate optocoupler, offers best-in-class noise immunity through its patented coplanar OPTOPLANAR® packaging technology. It features 25kV/µs@1,500Vcm dynamic Common Mode Transient Immunity (CMTI) rating during high-speed optocoupler switching and 40kV/µs@1,000Vcm static CMTI, making it more resilient to noise. The FOD8001 offers an isolation rating of 3,750V(rms). Isolation is achieved through optical light transmission across the isolation barrier with 0.5mm minimum physical separation between the primary and secondary sides to ensure long term reliability of the isolation barrier in customers’ applications.
This optocoupler offers high bandwidth (25Mbps) and tight pulse width distortion (6 nanoseconds), meeting the industry standard for field bus communications in automation technology such as Profibus, DeviceNet, CAN, Modbus, Interbus and many other standards. With a wide supply voltage range from 3V to 5.5V, it enables easy interfacing with low voltage devices, reducing overall system power. To support the requirements of industrial applications, the FOD8001 also offers a wide temperature range of -40ºC to +105ºC.
According to EN-Genius Network, Fairchild’s FOD8001 optocoupler was chosen as a 2009 “Product of the Year” for its efficiency, high bandwidth performance and excellent noise immunity.
The EN-Genius “Product of the Year” award winners are selected from exceptional product releases reviewed by the EN-Genius editorial team over the course of the year. Winners are chosen based on their strong technical merit, design, innovation and the likelihood of market success.
