ADTRAN Introduces New Enhanced Mobile Backhaul Solution

ADTRAN®, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of mobile backhaul solutions, today announced an enhancement to its solution suite with the introduction of the NetVanta® 8044M modular Ethernet Access Gateway.

This platform sets a new standard in mobile backhaul by supporting multiple networking technologies from the same device, thus cost effectively adapting to any network topology and easing the migration to high-bandwidth mobile data and video services over Ethernet driven by the rapid adoption of smart phones.

The NetVanta 8044M, combined with the ADTRAN Total Access® 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform, provides a complete end-to-end Ethernet access migration solution including a single operational model regardless of access technology. This solution enables service providers to compete effectively in any market while planning and implementing their transition to 3G and 4G mobile networks.

One of the industry's most versatile solutions, the NetVanta 8044M delivers operational simplicity in a single 1U-high platform supporting Ethernet, fiber, copper and bonded TDM services with a “pay-as-you-grow” business model. In addition, carrier-class service offerings are guaranteed with ADTRAN's advanced Ethernet Quality of Service capabilities.

“Mobile broadband networks are driving a transformation to IP and Ethernet with the deployment of new technologies such as LTE, HSPA, and IMS. The access network between the Ethernet edge and IP core must keep pace or become a quality of service bottleneck,” said Glen Hunt, principal analyst, Carrier Infrastructure, Current Analysis. “With the addition of the NetVanta 8044M to its mobile backhaul solution suite, ADTRAN can now uniquely provide mobile backhaul providers a complete end-to-end solution for Ethernet services migration. This solution enables multiple forms of access with a single termination device, thus increasing the flexibility of the service provider's network, while minimizing operational expenditures.”

“Flexibility is critical for mobile backhaul. This solution sets a new standard, with unprecedented flexibility from both aggregation and access perspectives,” said Jason Morgan, director of product management, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “This versatility allows both the NetVanta 8044M and the Total Access 5000 to stand apart from other solutions on the market. These carrier-class devices are designed to meet the evolving needs of the carrier network, allowing the carrier to invest in the future of its network with each deployment.”

The ADTRAN NetVanta 8044M Ethernet Access Gateway, working in concert with the Total Access 5000, meets the needs of a multi-access, next-generation, converged mobile backhaul network. At the cell site, the NetVanta 8044M delivers intelligent Ethernet and legacy TDM services, seamlessly offering aggregation and delivery of these services via GPON and Gigabit Ethernet (EoF), as well as bonded copper using e.SHDSL and VDSL2/ADSL2+ technologies.

The NetVanta 8044M will be available in July. This device will be showcased at CTIA, March 23-25 in Las Vegas in ADTRAN's booth #1540.
