Epson Imaging Acquires Intelligent Property Rights of Small- and Medium-Sized LCDs

At a meeting of its board of directors, Seiko Epson Corporation ("Epson", TSE: 6724) decided that as of March 31, 2010 (planned effective date), its rights and obligations relating to the management of patents and other intellectual property rights of small- and medium-sized LCDs would be acquired by its subsidiary company Epson Imaging Devices Corporation ("Epson Imaging") in an absorption-type split ("split"). The two companies subsequently concluded a contract to this effect. Details are as follows.

Note that because this is a simplified absorption-type split in which the acquiring company is a wholly-owned subsidiary, certain details have been omitted from this disclosure.

Purpose of split

The purpose of this split is to ensure the appropriate reallocation of intellectual property rights relating to small- and medium-sized LCDs in the Epson Group.
