JDSU Releases New T-BERD/MTS-8000 DMC Fibre Channel Test Solution

JDSU today introduced the Dual Module Carrier (DMC) for the T-BERD®/MTS-8000 platform,  the industry's only portable test solution offering concurrent capture/decode and TCP WireSpeed testing on two 10 GigE ports.  A complete 10M to 10 GigE, DS1/E1 to OC-192/STM-64, OTN, PDH, Next Generation SONET/SDH and Fibre Channel test solution, the T-BERD/MTS-8000 DMC is capable of simultaneous troubleshooting both sides of a circuit – using one tester – saving both time and money, and achieving operation efficiencies.

In the typical CO and Tier 2/3 troubleshooting environment, two testers have traditionally been needed to troubleshoot both ends of a local circuit to determine that the network segment is properly passing traffic.  Now, using a single T-BERD/MTS-8000 DMC, technicians can easily determine and troubleshoot traffic problems from both directions using a single test solution, translating to significant time and cost savings.

“With 10G Ethernet services fueling Carrier Ethernet growth, carriers must guard against degraded networks, and doing so usually involves time-consuming and costly test processes,” said Jim Nerschook, vice president and general manager in JDSU’s Communications Test and Measurement business segment. “With the T-BERD/MTS-8000 DMC, JDSU offers the only portable solution for dual-port 10 GigE test, and innovative new features to help address network challenges in an efficient, cost-effective and time-saving manner, demonstrating once again JDSU’s commitment to helping customers deploy reliable and Carrier Ethernet networks.”

In addition to being the only test solution that supports dual port packet capture/decode, the T-BERD/MTS-8000 DMC is the only test solution that supports dual-port 10G TCP WireSpeed testing.  Unlike other test sets that lack the port density, the T-BERD/MTS-8000 DMC supports up to eight concurrent DSx/PDH tests for rapid equipment provisioning.

Other key performance features offered by the DMC include the ability to run four concurrent tests, creating other operational efficiencies. Technicians can share a test set for installation and troubleshooting in a central office and MSPP installation can be expedited by verifying multiple ports concurrently.  In addition to the JDSU ONT-503, the DMC also offers service provider labs the port density needed for long-term equipment “soak” testing across multiple interfaces with the portability needed to take soak testing to the field.

The T-BERD/MTS-8000 is a next-generation, modular, and cost-effective platform solution, featuring an innovative design that combines traditional SONET/SDH testing and Ethernet/IP testing–all in a single test module. The T-BERD/MTS-8000 platform provides physical layer test modules, including optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), polarization mode dispersion (PMD), and chromatic dispersion (CD) and service layer test modules, such as 10 GigE, 40G and SDH/SONET, to test various fiber (FTTx), coarse wave division multiplexing (CWDM), and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) networks.

JDSU offers a single-source Carrier Ethernet test portfolio that facilitates analysis of all seven layers of next-generation IP networks.  The JDSU portfolio provides the industry’s deepest set of test features in an integrated, end-to-end approach to testing Carrier Ethernet products and services, including lab and service verification, development and production, installation and maintenance, troubleshooting and overall service assurance. The portfolio offers service providers and NEMs the confidence to successfully build, deploy, and manage Carrier Ethernet and Business Class solutions.
