Tessera Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:TSRA) announced today that SK Telesys has licensed Tessera’s FotoNation® FaceTracker solution, which provides high-performance face detection and tracking capabilities for cell phones and digital still cameras. SK Telesys, based in Seoul, Korea, will integrate the Tessera® technology into its 3G-enabled handset, the W-Phone (SK-700).
“Tessera’s FotoNation FaceTracker solution will provide our customers with additional features that will enhance their cell phone camera experience,” said S.J. Lee, manager, SK Telesys. “This next-generation W-Phone features a 3-inch multi-touch display, a 3-megapixel camera, DMB support, Bluetooth connectivity and SNS features such as Blog Up-loader, SNS Phonebook, etc.”
Tessera’s FotoNation FaceTracker solution provides fast, high-performance face detection and tracking capabilities that enable the camera to select settings automatically to help capture the perfect picture. The technology uses innovative face-oriented technology to detect up to 10 faces in the camera viewfinder in as little as 0.1 seconds. It enables a camera to automatically adjust focus, color and exposure settings, helping to optimize portraits even when subjects are backlit, off-center or over / under exposed.
“We are pleased that SK Telesys chose Tessera as their partner to provide advanced imaging features for the W-Phone,” said Mike Bereziuk, executive vice president, Imaging & Optics, Tessera. “Our transformational imaging technologies continue to enable cell phone providers to offer advanced imaging features equivalent to those found in digital still cameras.”
