InFocus® Corp., the industry pioneer in digital projection technology, today announced it won a 2009 GOOD DESIGN™ award for its IN5500 projector series. As the company’s latest high performance digital projectors, the IN5500 series combines an incredible level of dependability, installation flexibility and customization with the latest projector technology and an aesthetically pleasing, filter-free design.
The IN5500 projector series was designed by V60 Design under the direction of Danny Han, sr. industrial designer, from InFocus. Over 20 years of experience, usability testing and customer feedback went into the design and development of the IN5500 series, solving several common usability problems in the market:
- The projector fits perfectly into any room, regardless of size or dimensions, due to its interchangeable optics, from short throw to ultra long throw projection, and motorized horizontal and vertical lens shift.
- Commonly encountered radial distortions, including pincushion and barrel distortion, are eliminated by automatic sensors for ceiling detection and keystone, enabling perfectly projected images even on imperfect surfaces.
- The IN5500 projectors eliminate the need for multiple displays when video conferencing, using white boards or conducting collaborative presentations by employing a new SplitScreen display option.
- The “Blue Iris” glow ring notifies users when the projector is powering up or down, eliminating the guess-work at what the “beep” or flashing LED light mean.
- Customers can blend the projector seamlessly into any environment through the use of customizable projector skins and an integrated cable management system.
- The IN5500 is among the most cost effective high performance projectors available due to its long life lamps.
“We are honored to be named a GOOD DESIGN Award winner,” said Benjamin Joy, product line director for InFocus. “The IN5500 series truly embodies the cutting edge in business projector technology and style. The thought put into its design and usability make these projectors one of the most affordable and reliable investments for businesses today.”
Founded in 1950, the GOOD DESIGN program is the world’s oldest and most respected program for design excellence, organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. This year, a record number of entries were received from over 40 nations around the world, ranging from a NASA Manned Mars exploration Vehicle for 2030 to a Green Design clean water filtering system for rural South Africa.
Submissions were judged by a jury of distinguished design professionals and leading industry specialists and design press on criteria established in the original 1950 program for the highest aesthetic in terms of innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, and energy efficiency, and sensitivity to the environment.
