Planar Systems Releases New Touchscreen Displays for Retail, Healthcare Applications

Planar Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLNR), a worldwide leader in specialty display solutions, today announced the addition of two new touchscreen displays to its successful product lineup. Ideal for use in a variety of retail, healthcare and government/education applications such as POS terminals, retail digital signage, point-of-information displays, healthcare check-in stations or government information kiosks, the new PA1575R touchscreen system and PT2275SW touchscreen LCD support Planar’s strategic commitment to address the growing use of touchscreens within these specialty markets.

PT2275SW 22" SAW touch screen LCD

On display this week at the National Retail Federation (NRF) Convention & Expo in New York (Planar Booth #247), the PA1575R all-in-one system with a 15” touchscreen computer is specifically designed for POS applications. Easily integrated with a variety of networks, the thin profile touchscreen computer features Microsoft Windows® XP or WePOS operating systems, a fanless 1 GHz Intel® Celeron processor, 1 GB memory, and a resistive touch screen, which can be activated by a finger, gloved hand, credit card, pen or stylus. The PA1575R is also designed to accommodate a card swipe on the side.

The Planar PT2275SW 22” wide SAW touchscreen LCD is perfect for smaller format digital signage applications or desktop applications requiring larger screen sizes. It features SAW (surface acoustic wave) technology, constructed with pure glass, which provides superior image quality, resolution and light transmission. The screen can also be activated with a finger, gloved hand or stylus – making it ideal for finding or inputting information quickly and accurately.

The PA1575R and PT2275SW also incorporate specific enhancements designed to improve end-user interface, such as the ability to adjust the monitor from -5 to 90 degrees to meet user preferences, and a rugged deskstand to minimize accidental tipping.

“Touchscreen interfaces are becoming a pervasive technology,” said Rhoda Alexander, director of monitor research, iSuppli Corporation. “Having gained widespread adoption in handheld devices, touchscreens are becoming a key feature in all sorts of environments where humans interact with machines. Planar is one of the vendors that have been particularly innovative about applying touch technologies to retail, healthcare, hospitality, and industrial applications.”

Planar’s touchscreen products are offered through a variety of online and distribution partners, and are backed by Planar’s industry-leading three-year Customer First™ warranty, with free two-day advance replacement.
