Quartics Unveils New Video Solution for Netbooks and Laptops

Quartics, Inc. today introduced a new video solution for Netbooks and Laptops that will revolutionize the way consumers experience their movies, games, and streaming media.

Called Qvu™, it delivers a “Beyond HD” level of video quality that surpasses high definition, while consuming a minimal amount of power and thus significantly improving battery life and viewing time. Similarly, Qvu enhances existing non-HD content providing consumers a near-HD experience. The new Qvu solution is now available to OEM and ODM companies worldwide, and has been adopted by Acer through a partnership with Quartics announced earlier today. For more details on the Acer relationship, see companion news release titled “Quartics and Acer Give Consumers a Beyond HD Experience for Video Content.”

With the growing popularity of HDTVs consumers increasingly are expecting that their Netbooks and Laptops deliver an equal – if not better – viewing experience. However, most of these devices are poorly equipped to handle the technical demands of processing and displaying HD video. Furthermore, products that claim to offer an HD viewing experience consume too much power for realistic portable applications, and fail to enhance or improve the image quality. Enter Qvu.

“Consumers have raised the bar on the experience they want with video content,” said Derek Meyer, executive vice president of Quartics. “Qvu is the only solution to be created with this goal in mind. Any Netbook or Laptop enabled with Qvu will be unique in its ability to provide true enjoyment through incredible video realism and detail like never before.”

Netbooks and other ultraportable devices are experiencing some of the strongest demand the consumer electronics industry has seen in years. Close to 150 million units are expected to be shipped by 2014 with a compound annual growth rate of 47 percent. Will Strauss, president of Forward Concepts, said, “Netbooks are one of the hottest new product categories. But they have lacked an ability to deliver an immersive video experience – until now. Solutions such as Qvu from Quartics help fulfill the promise of Netbooks and other portable products as a dynamic platform for the consumption of video from any source. This can only increase their appeal to consumers, and holds the potential to further grow Netbook and ultraportable device markets.”

Setting a New Benchmark for Beyond HD Quality

Qvu is the only solution that was created from the ground up with the goal of enhancing the video experience using minimal power consumption. Ideal for Netbooks and other battery powered devices, the Qvu solution includes unique technology such as specially designed algorithms that improve video quality from numerous sources including as streaming media and all SD formats.
