Datacard Upgrades MPR5800 Inline Card System with High Speed Laser Engraving Capability

The new Datacard MPR5800™ inline card production and personalization system provides laser engraved financial cards at speeds up to 6,000 cards per hour

Datacard Group, the world leader in secure ID and card personalization solutions announced a new financial configuration for their MPR5800™ inline card production and personalization system. The system is now capable of running at up to 6000 cards per hour, with magnetic stripe encoding, chip encoding and laser marking of flat financial cards.

Laser technology is now an approved printing process on all types of financial cards worldwide. Using the new Multi Rapid Laser module on the MPR5800 system, cardholder information can be printed on the front of the card and CVV2 data on the rear using standard financial cards with no laser receptive overlay, thus eliminating the need to use specific plastics.

Connell Smith, Vice President of hardware marketing at Datacard Group said “The MPR5800 system is ideal for customers wishing to migrate from standard embossed cards to flat as it can also integrate inline embossing modules and delivery solutions. A single system can produce flat financial cards at 6,000 cards per hour and embossed cards at 2,500 cards per hour. Existing MPR5000 and MPR5800 systems can be upgraded on site to run up to 6,000 cards per hour for flat financial cards."

Laser engraved cards offer numerous advantages over other personalization processes. Lower overall cost per card is perhaps the most important for high volume issuers – no additional consumables are required for personalization, thus lowering overall production costs. Fraud prevention and card security is another important point of differentiation for laser cards. Since the personalization is actually engraved into the surface of the card, it can’t be altered or tampered with once it has been issued.

Datacard Group will be exhibiting at Cartes and IDentification on stand number 3F041, in hall 3 of the Paris Nord Villepointe Exhibition Centre, from November 17 - 19.
