Advanced Photonix Subsidiary Wins Order for Supply of High-Speed Optical Receivers

Picometrix, LLC, an Advanced Photonix company (NYSE Amex: API), announced today that it has been selected to supply high-speed optical receivers (HSOR) to a leading OEM telecom systems provider. The annual commitment is estimated at more than $800,000 with volume shipments beginning in the company's 4th quarter. The new design win is for 40G ultra long haul communications in dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) systems which utilize NRZ-DPSK modulation.

The patented photodiodes and proprietary amplifiers utilized in these receivers deliver industry leading performance and are designed with dual inputs for balanced detection to support data rates up to 43 Gbps. The balanced receiver operates over the entire C and L bands of wavelengths with low polarization dependent responsivity and exemplifies the Company's continued technology leadership in 40 Gbps and emerging 100 Gbps HSOR's. Picometrix offers the industry's most complete line of 40G High-Speed Optical Receiver solutions for both client side and line side modulation formats, including NRZ, RZ, DPSK, DQPSK, ODB and DP-QPSK.

"Our commitment is to meet our customer's needs by providing the industry's broadest product offering of technologically advanced high speed optical receivers that deliver the superior product performance necessary to enable deployment of advanced fiber optic networks," said Robin (Rob) Risser, President and General Manager of Picometrix and CFO of API. "This agreement with a major tier 1 telecom OEM is only one of several design wins with tier 1 and tier 2 OEMs that we have been working on this past year. We anticipate additional design wins will move to volume production status during 2010 and look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with this key customer."
