Traditional machine vision illumination systems based on fluorescent tube, halogen or metal halide sources fail to provide the light intensity needed for today's high-speed linescan cameras to detect defects, especially on reflective surfaces such as flat metal, solar cells, or glass.

The Chromasens Bright Field Corona II LED line lighting system overcomes these challenges, delivering an ultra-high light intensity up to 300,000 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) combined with superior homogeneity that ensures consistent illumination across the inspected object, minimizing variations in brightness, shadows, or reflections that distort image data. Advanced thermal management and temperature control prevents the system from overheating and helps to maintain the specific color temperature needed for the machine vision application. Multiple passive cooling options are available, as well as optional active fan or water cooling.
Modular Design
Because modular designs improve flexibility, scalability, and maintainability, they are becoming increasingly critical in the development of machine vision systems. Modular by design, the Bright Field Corona II is available in 170 nm long lighting modules which can be connected up to a total length of 1360 mm (53.5 inches) with one LED channel per segment. Besides scalability, modules let engineers easily isolate and troubleshoot issues in specific modules, simplifying debugging and reducing downtime. The modules are also reusable across different projects or applications, saving development time and costs. An IP54 rated metal housing protects module electronics against dust ingress and water spray, as does the 0° to 70 °C operating temperature.
To further aid in flexible system design, the Bright Field Corona II can be ordered with standard LED colors of white, red, green, or blue, or equipped with Ultraviolet (UV) 395 nm LEDs. Additionally, customers can order Infrared (IR) LEDs in a choice of 850 or 940 nm wavelengths to increase image contrast.
An external LED controller is available from Chromasens, the XLC4. Fully compatible with all Corona II systems, the XLC4 controller has four channels ranging from 0.2 to 1.8 amps per channel and can be operated from a PC via RS232, USB, Ethernet or RS485.
