MagnaChip Begins Shipping its Medium-Sized AMOLED Display Driver ICs

MagnaChip Semiconductor Ltd., a leading Asia-based designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products for high volume consumer applications, today announced that it began shipping its medium-sized AMOLED display driver ICs in April 2008.

MagnaChip's high-end AMOLED display driver ICs support 16 million colors and are targeted at a variety of mid-sized digital applications such as portable media players, PlayStation Portables, personal navigation devices, and car navigation systems, with WQVGA (480RGB x 272) to HVGA (480RGB x 320) resolution. In addition to the reduced power consumption offered by AMOLED display technology, these medium-sized AMOLED display driver ICs contain additional power-saving functionalities, including Automatic Brightness Control (ABC) and Smart Mobile Current Control (SMCC).

Do Sang Mok, Vice President of Mobile Display Solutions Marketing at MagnaChip said, "We remain focused on meeting the growing demand for 'green,' energy efficient, high resolution products that support a wide range of content including movies, animation, and flash games. AMOLED technology, coupled with additional power-saving functionality in our solutions, provides for significantly reduced power consumption compared with many other competing products. MagnaChip will continue to invest in building AMOLED technology leadership, as this market is expected to provide a unique growth opportunity given recent consumer demand for environmentally-friendly, high resolution displays."
