Lock Family Eye Care Integrates Optical Coherence Tomography Machine with Patient Services

Optometrists are pleased to announce the integration of an optical coherence tomography machine with their patient services, reports Lock Family Eye Care.

A West Des Moines optometrist at Lock Family Eye Care can now more accurately diagnose and survey changing conditions in the eye due to specific conditions, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. This device can be used in addition to regular eye exams to provide patients and optometrists more information on the state of eye health and more accurately diagnose and monitor the progression of certain eye conditions.

Macular degeneration and glaucoma often affects aging populations. Early detection, treatment and monitoring of conditions can slow their progress. An OCT machine uses optical coherence tomography, a non-invasive test that takes cross-section images of the retina using light waves. The layers of the back of the eye, or retina, can be clearly seen, allowing them to be mapped and measured. These measurements provide information to eye doctors to both diagnose and give treatment guidance for age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. The data from optical coherence tomography tests allow eye doctors and patients to make more informed decisions about the state of the eye health and current and future treatment. A typical eye test cannot provide this level of monitoring used for treatment as it cannot give information on the condition of the layers of the retina.

“We are excited to be able to offer optical coherence tomography to our patients with macular degeneration and glaucoma,” said Dr. Jenessa Lock. “These conditions often happen to patients as they age and the OCT machine allows us to provide the most accurate feedback on the progress of the conditions and plan for any adjustments to their treatment.”

Dr. Michael Lock adds, “We are always on the lookout for effective and proven methods to aid patients in maintaining and improving their eye health. An OCT machine is the latest addition to the state-of-the-art technology used at Lock Family Eye Care. We look forward to exceeding patient expectations as to the level of service that they can expect from the optometrists and staff at Lock Family Eye Care.”

Dr. Jenessa Lock and Dr. Michael Lock, optometrists at Lock Family Eye Care, have served the eye care needs of residents of Waukee, Des Moines Proper, Urbandale, Johnston and the surrounding areas since 2006. Their staff offers compassionate and high quality eye care for children and adults. Services include comprehensive eye exams for children and adults, contact lens exams, optomap, and treatment of computer vision syndrome and eye diseases.
