Bite Partners with Coriant to Offer Ultra-Fast 100G Optical Service in Lithuania

Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end packet optical networking solutions, and the Lithuanian mobile operator Bite, today announced 100G service deployment in Lithuania as part of a nationwide upgrade to its fiber optic network infrastructure. Based on proven coherent optical technology from Coriant and delivered in collaboration with local partner Telekomservisas, the ultra-fast 100G service milestone and state-of-the-art network upgrade will enable Bite to meet current and future capacity demands, while ensuring the highest quality of experience for its customers’ bandwidth-intensive applications, including 4G/5G mobile data, broadband Internet, and HD/OTT video.

“Preparing for the next generation Internet and emerging 5G mobile communications will require best-in-class technology innovation throughout the mobile network, but especially at the high-capacity optical core,” said Gintas Butënas, Bite Lithuania Network Director. “We are excited to partner with Coriant and Telekomservisas to lay the scalable and resilient fiber optic foundation for a new generation of services that will transform the way Lithuanians live, work, and play.”

Initially deployed in May, the new 100G service was enabled by a seamless software upgrade to Bite’s previously deployed DWDM network built upon the Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform. The hiT 7300 is an industry-leading coherent optical communications system that supports the secure and reliable transmission of 100G+ per channel. With the ability to scale up to 25.6 Tbps of system capacity when deployed in conjunction with Coriant’s industry-leading CloudWave™ Optics technology, the hiT 7300 provides Bite a cost-efficient path to even higher data transmission rates, including 400G, as the bandwidth demands of its customers evolve over time.

“With its ultra-fast Internet service and industry-recognized leadership in 4G, Bite has consistently demonstrated the ability to deliver world-class communications services from major cities and suburbs to the most remote towns in Lithuania,” said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Services, Coriant. “Bite continues to set the performance bar with its 100G service, and we are committed to helping them further advance their network with disruptive innovation specifically designed to maximize end-user service quality while lowering network costs.”
