The image processing software EyeVision by EVT now also supports the Time-of-Flight camera from Basler. The 3D camera works based on the Time-of-Flight principle. The integrated lighting of the camera sends infrared impulses. The sensor then measures the time, which the light takes to get reflected back by the object.
The longer the distance, the longer it takes the light zu get back. The light source and the image capture are synchronized, which means that the distance on the image data can be extracted and calculated. The Basler 3D camera has not only an integrated lens, but also a GigE interface. In addition the camera has a resolution of 640x480 pixel with an image rate of 15 fps.
With the EyeVision software the EyeScan BA 3D (this is the name of the sensor when combined with the EyeVision software) is compatible with Windows as well as Linux. The combination of drag-and-drop image processing software and already calibrated 3D sensor is especially suitable for applications in the factory automation such as e.g. optimization of production processes, 3D dimensioning, scanning and inspection as well as bin picking. But it can also be used in logistics for applications such as e.g. stacking of boxes and pallets, volume measurements, labeling, intelligent warehousing/shelf organization, luggage/carton sorting and routing.
The camera captures the spatial dimensions of scenes and objects instantly and entirely without moving components as for example laser scanners. That makes the EyeScan BA 3D more robust and less susceptible to interference.
The EyeVision software offers a graphical user interface for drag-and-drop programming, which means no programming skills are necessary for creating inspection programs. The command set includes a wide range of 3D commands and the plugIn option makes it possible to integrate new commands created by the user.
