OmniVision Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, and Tamron Co., Ltd., an integrated optics manufacturer and leader in the security and surveillance equipment industry, today announced that OmniVision's OV4689 CameraChip™ sensor will be utilized in Tamron's ultra-compact MP1010M-VC camera module to capture crisp images and videos of fast moving objects in security and action cameras.
The MP1010M-VC is the world's first compact imaging solution that features optical vibration compensation, which delivers unprecedented image stabilization, even when recording in highly unstable settings.
"The security market expects increasing imaging capabilities from smaller camera modules," said Yoshinori Narita, general manager at Tamron. "The OV4689 is an excellent example of OmniVision's dedication to pushing the standards of digital imaging through innovative technologies and complex manufacturing processes. The OV4689 enables excellent image quality while maintaining a small package size, making it an ideal sensor to support our MP1010M-VC's unique optical vibration compensation capability."
"Image blurring is detrimental to both security and action camera applications, and remains a particularly difficult problem for camera modules to address while maintaining a compact form factor," said Chris Yiu, senior marketing manager at OmniVision. "The MP1010M-VC is Tamron's solution to this quandary, offering an exceptional level of image stabilization in a remarkably small camera module. It can be used in advanced security applications as well as emerging markets such as action, drone, and wearable cameras."
The MP1010M-VC is an extremely compact and lightweight camera module that significantly shortens installation time and reduces end-product size and weight, with a total length of 58.4 mm and weighing just 77 grams. Leveraging OmniVision's 4-megapixel OV4689, the MP1010M-VC captures full-resolution 2K ultra high definition (UHD) video and 720p HD video at 60 frames per second (FPS). The 1/3-inch OV4689 also features high dynamic range (HDR) and a high-speed 4-lane MIPI serial output interface with fast data transfer rates to enable excellent scene reproduction.
The MP1010M-VC with OV4689-enabled HD capabilities is currently in volume production and available for sampling.
