Orion Receives $2.8 Million Federal Contract to Install LED Products in Two Research Center Sites

Orion Energy Systems, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance, energy-efficient retrofit lighting platforms, today announced a major federal agency approved a $2.8 million contract to retrofit two research center sites with Orion’s patented and patent-pending light fixtures and sensors.

Over 3,400 inefficient T8 fluorescent and HID fixtures will be replaced with Orion’s industry-leading LED products. The current HID and fluorescent high bays in production areas will be replaced with Orion LED high bays, which are manufactured in the United States in compliance with the Buy American Act. The facility’s offices and common area T8 fluorescent fixtures will be replaced with Orion’s patented LED Troffer Retrofit (LDR) and linear LED products.

Installation will begin in March and continue through the spring. The lighting upgrade will help meet several federal mandates for sustainability to reduce energy consumption, promote healthy work environments, and protect natural resources.

The energy partner leading the project selected Orion due to the company’s past successful track record with complex government deployments and the energy-saving performance of its lighting retrofit solutions. Orion and this partner have completed over fifty projects with federal and state agencies in the last fifteen years, including US Department of Veterans Affairs and US Department of Agriculture buildings, as well as Department of Defense facilities like Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Station Mayport, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Naval Air Station Pensacola, United States Marine Corp Blount Island, and many others.

Orion’s latest LED High Bay suite sets a new standard for performance in its class with up to 179 lumens per watt and an unprecedented modular platform. The fixtures are upgradeable and interchangeable, allowing maintenance crews to meet changing light distribution requirements, such as moving from an open area to aisle lighting. By simply turning off the power to the luminaire, internal teams can use quick attachments to easily switch out aisle illuminators and modular power packs for driver replacement.

Since its introduction in 2014, the Orion LDR suite has created a new standard not only for design, performance, and energy efficiency, but also a breakthrough in the ease of installation in troffer retrofit from fluorescent to LED, which reduces overall costs. The industry’s first patented LED Troffer Retrofit suite reduces cost on the job site because it ships fully assembled, is adjustable to fit existing troffers, and typically installs in one to two minutes with no tools other than a ladder, compared to more than 10-minute installs for many competitive fixtures.

“During some projects, there is simply no margin for error, and the work of this agency certainly falls into that category,” said John Scribante, Chief Executive Officer of Orion Energy Systems, Inc. “Their exploration programs capture the imagination of the global community, and we are honored that they have chosen Orion to illuminate their missions, research, and educational initiatives.”
